Facebook for Android is Now Faster

By on December 13, 2012

The social network, Facebook, just announced a new version of its Android app today Thursday. The Facebook Android App has increased its speed and performance drastically compared from the previews versions.

“Facebook for Android 2.0 is twice as fast when looking at photos and opening your Timeline and remarkably quicker to launch,” Facebook’s Philip Fund said in a blog post announcing the latest update. “When you’re on your phone, nothing matters more than getting what you want quickly. We’re always working to make our apps faster, and in this update we’ve rebuilt news feed, notifications and Timeline for speed.”

The updated Android app lets users scroll through photos without leaving their news feed, and tap on individual photos to open them almost instantly. This update also makes your Timeline and updates load much faster than previously.

Facebook  made the decision to move from HTML5-based apps to native applications for iOS and Android. The native version of Facebook’s iOS app launched a new months ago. Both apps are now on a fixed-date release cycle, with improvements rolling out on a periodic basis.

“This new release creates a solid foundation for the Facebook for Android app moving forward,” said Frank Qixing Du, an engineer on the Facebook for Android team on the social network’s engineering blog.

”The infrastructure in place will let us continue to make the app even faster, smoother, and feature-rich.”

Version 2.0 of Facebook for Android is NOW.
