Instagram will Make Money OFF You Next Year in 2013

By on December 18, 2012

Instagram, the app for sharing and filtering photos on phones,  has released its new changes of their term of use that will go into effect on January 16, 2013 for all users. They are informing their users that next year they will be implementing a new way of making money off of them. “Our community has grown a lot since we wrote our original terms of service. To get things up to date for the millions of people now using Instagram, we’re bringing you new versions of our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service,” Instagram wrote on its blog.

In their full blog post, Instagram, points out that nothing drastically has changed to the terms of use. Actually, they are saying that it’s privacy will stay the same regarding photos’ ownership or who can see them, it will help sharing the info between Facebook and Instagram, and fight spam abuse. However, they forgot to mention many important keys of their New Terms of Use printed on the fine print. Below you can find the main important keys updates that will definitely surprise you!

Your photos can be used to deliver interesting paid or sponsored content or promotions.

“Instagram does not claim ownership of any Content that you post on or through the Service,” it said. “Instead, you hereby grant to Instagram a non-exclusive, fully paid and royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable, worldwide license to use the Content that you post on or through the Service, except that you can control who can view certain of your Content and activities on the Service as described in the Service’s Privacy Policy, available here: http://instagram.com/legal/privacy/.”

Instagram is just pushing it, the terms goes on “Some or all of the Service may be supported by advertising revenue. To help us deliver interesting paid or sponsored content or promotions, you agree that a business or other entity may pay us to display your username, likeness, photos (along with any associated metadata), and/or actions you take, in connection with paid or sponsored content or promotions, without any compensation to you.” (You can read the full Terms of Service here.)

Many Instagram users have been responding negatively about this “New Terms of Service.” I have seen many posting on their Facebook that they will be deleting their instagram accounts. I have honestly never used Instagram that much. I started using it a couple of weeks ago just out of the curiosity, and I started liking. I don’t really see any problems with this new way of making money off us. After all, it’s company giving us a free service for us to use. And, if we are still wanting to use their service, they need to find a way to make money to be able to provide us with such service. I think I might still use it from to time-to-time. How about you?
