The console of the Japanese company Sony will have a touch control panel and easy access to Twitter and Facebook

Sony Corp plans to launch its new home console PlayStation 4 this year that will cost approximately $430, giving the successor to the popular PS3 touch control panel and easy access to social networks like Twitter and Facebook, reported the Japanese daily Asahi .

The head of Sony’s game, Andrew House, will unveil new features of PlayStation in a meeting on February 20 in New York, the newspaper said, without saying where it got the information. Sony declined to comment on the report.

THE MEETING IN NEW YORK

The meeting in New York is the first major event to PlayStation in two years. The last time Sony held a similar event presented the prototype of its handheld console Vital. The meeting prior to that in 2005 came two months after he presented his concept for the PS3, which sold 70 million units.

It has been over six years since Sony launched the PS3, a larger gap that existed between the PS3 and its predecessor, the PS2. The video game market has changed since then with the rise of tablets and smartphones are attracting casual gamers with cheap deals.

The shift to mobile devices has forced the console manufacturers like Sony, Nintendo Co Ltd and Microsoft Corp to find new ways to win back customers consoles.

In a sign of the competitive pressure faced, last month Nintendo cut its sales target for the Wii U, the successor to the Wii, which sold 100 million units to 4 million machines by the end of March since launch in November, compared with an initial projection of 5.5 million.
