China is One of the Countries that Export More Weapons in the World

By on March 19, 2013

China managed to win over Great Britain according to Stockholm Studio, thanks to the sale of weapons to countries like Pakistan.

China is one of five countries that export more weapons in the world

China displaced Britain as the fifth country, which exported more weapons, since it has 5% of world trade in this sector, according to a study published by the International Institute for research on peace in Stockholm.

“The Ascension of China is mainly due to important purchases of weaponry by Pakistan,” said the director of research at Sipri, Paul Holtom, who stressed that Chinese exports increased 162% between 2008 and 2012 compared to the previous five years.

“A certain number of contracts signed recently indicate that China has become a major provider for a growing number in important States,” he added in reference to other countries such as Burma and Bangladesh, as well as Venezuela.

The Government of the Asian countries does not publish statistics of its exports of weapons, but the spokesman of Foreign Affairs, Hong Lei, said that “China has already adopted a responsible attitude and a prudent international arms trade”.

According to the representative of the Chinese Government, these sales “respond to the legitimate needs of Defense” and “does not threaten regional or global stability” or “interfere in the internal politics of States”.

The leading exporters of weapons remain United States (30% of the market) and Russia (26%), followed at a distance by Germany and France.
