Are We Subliminally Raising a Generation of Machismo?

By on September 20, 2014

Today’s representation of women is horribly wrong and the lyrical content in music is even worse! Every day we allow our children to listen to vulgar and explicit lyrical content referring to women as “B#tches” and “H$es” words  that are so degrading and should not be in any child’s vocabulary. Another error we commit as people is allowing young children to listen to music that is constantly putting women down, subjectifying, degrading them; as well as making them seem as what they aren’t. Things like this are what is giving boys the subliminal message of it being okay to disrespect women and degrade them.

Are we subliminally raising a generation of machism?

Everyday women are subject to false portrayals in the media from commercials such as Carls Jr. burger adds showing women in bikinis eating the burger sending the message out that a woman is a sexual marketing object and all of them are as provocative as you see in these ads. The Medias incorrect and false portrayal of women is what is making men have such high expectations of women’s beauty that cannot be met! These expectations cannot be met for the simple fact that not everyone is as flawless as the photo-shopped models you see in magazines.

Are we truly raising our men right? Do we really want our boys by raising them to believe women are not our equals? That woman are not to be smart or they are undesirable? Is this misrepresentation of women what we want our future generations to grow up believing is correct, do we want to raise men to believe that when they want sex it is to be given to them because that’s the women’s job; to only bare children and clean the house and make food everyday? Women are being subjectified to these cruel assumptions and ignorant beliefs everyday even in countries such as in India and china. The belief of males being the better gender and females are only useful for baring children and nothing more because they are useless is what is causing a growing trend in this misrepresentation of females. Because of this another on going issue we have, which is female feticide: which is the deliberate act of aborting a baby simply because it is born a female. This on going trend of subjectifying women and this act of gendercide in other countries is what is raising our men around the world to devalue women and look at them as merely property. How can we fix this you may ask?

We can fix this by raising our men right and showing them the importance of women and what we are capable of. We can also make a difference by teaching women to stand up for there rights and no longer to be afraid to pursue high positions of authority because it makes you less desirable to men as women. We as women around the world should push forward and correct the image that media has of us so that women can finally be viewed as equals to men. It is time for change and on a global level; No one is free until we are all free.
